Medical weight management by telehealth in Florida
A physician-led, medical approach to weight for patients located in Florida. Your plan is built around your health history, your goals, and what is safe for you, with GLP-1 medication evaluation when it is clinically appropriate.
Florida patients only: The clinician is licensed in Florida only, and care is available only to patients located in Florida. Services are not available in other states.
Booking opens the secure SimplePractice patient portal in a new tab. First-time evaluations for this service use a Video Visit. On the booking page, choose “Medical Weight Management Visit (Video)”, a 30-minute video visit.
Who this service is for
Medical weight management may be a good fit if you are in Florida and:
- have tried changing how you eat and move but have not been able to reach or keep a healthier weight;
- have weight-related health concerns, such as elevated blood pressure, blood sugar, or cholesterol, or poor sleep and snoring;
- want a clinician to help you sort through options, including whether medication may be appropriate for you.
If you have a history of an eating disorder, are pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, please mention it when you book. Some weight management approaches are not safe in these situations, and the clinician may recommend a different plan or in-person care.
What your visit covers
Your first visit is a conversation about the full picture, not just a number on the scale. Expect to discuss:
- your weight history, past attempts, and what has and has not worked;
- medical conditions, current medications, allergies, and family history;
- eating patterns, activity, sleep, stress, and your personal goals;
- recent lab results, or which labs may be helpful (see below).
Together you will build a plan. It may include nutrition and activity guidance, practical habit strategies, treatment of related conditions, and regular follow-up. Results vary from person to person, and no specific amount of weight loss is promised.
GLP-1 medication evaluation
GLP-1 receptor agonists are a class of prescription medicines that may help some people with weight management alongside lifestyle changes. They are not right for everyone. Before considering one, the clinician reviews your history, including any personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney problems, pregnancy plans, and other medications.
A GLP-1 medication is prescribed only if it is clinically appropriate after evaluation. It is never guaranteed, and no specific brand is promised. If one is prescribed, you will review possible side effects, how to start safely, and how follow-up and monitoring will work. Medication availability and insurance coverage vary.
Video Visit or Text Visit?
Please book a Video Visit for your first weight management evaluation. A live conversation is the safest way to review your history and discuss medication. Text Visits are reserved for a short list of simple, qualifying acute concerns (upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, gout, and ear infection). Ongoing weight management follow-ups generally use Video Visits, and the clinician will let you know if another follow-up format is appropriate for you.
Labs
Labs help make a weight plan safer and more personal. Depending on your history, the clinician may suggest tests such as a metabolic panel, hemoglobin A1c, a lipid panel, or thyroid testing. If you already have recent results, have them ready to share. Learn more about routine lab ordering and review.
What to expect
- Request a Video Visit through the secure SimplePractice patient portal.
- Complete intake and meet with the clinician by video.
- Get labs if recommended, and agree on a plan.
- Return for follow-up to review progress, side effects, and next steps.
When to seek in-person or emergency care
Telehealth is not right for every situation. Seek prompt in-person care for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, signs of dehydration, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. For emergencies such as chest pain, trouble breathing, or signs of a severe allergic reaction, call 911 or go to the nearest ER.
Clinical decisions, including whether treatment may include a prescription, are made after evaluation. Nothing on this site guarantees a prescription or a particular outcome.
Medical Weight Management FAQ
Will I get a prescription for a GLP-1 medication?
Not necessarily. A GLP-1 medication is considered only when it is clinically appropriate after a full evaluation of your health history, medications, and labs. Prescriptions and outcomes are never guaranteed.
Do you offer specific brand-name weight loss medications?
We do not promise any specific brand or medication. If medication is appropriate, the clinician will discuss options that fit your health history, and availability and insurance coverage can vary.
Can my first weight management visit be a Text Visit?
No. Please book a Video Visit for your first weight management evaluation. Text Visits are reserved for a short list of simple, qualifying acute concerns.
Do I need labs before my first visit?
Not necessarily. If you have recent lab results, have them ready to share. The clinician may recommend labs based on your history and any treatment being considered.
Can I be seen if I live outside Florida?
No. The clinician is licensed in Florida only, and care is available only to patients located in Florida.
